There are many misconceptions about acne.  These misconceptions must be demystified if you want your acne reduce efforts to succeed.   For instance, people tend to assume that acne is a problem that is only linked with puberty.  But I’m living proof that age does not matter.  I had clear skin as a teenager and developed acne as an adult.  Another common misconception is that oily food is a major cause of acne.  However, there are no clear evidences to establish food as a major culprit.  Even though people tend to believe that stress leads to acne, there is no direct connection.  Instead, acne breakouts are more likely to be triggered by hormonal changes that can occur during stressful periods. The way that you take care of your skin has a much greater impact on your chances of getting acne than stress or oily foods.  Still, it is important to have a healthy diet to maintain healthy looking skin.  All acne reduce efforts will ultimately fail if you don’t understand the root causes.

Although researchers have not been able to determine the specific causes that result in acne, there are some factors that are known to be directly or indirectly linked to acne.  For starters, hormonal changes can lead to an increase in acne.  This explains why some individuals are affected by acne during pregnancy.  Another common cause of acne is plugged follicles that can act as a breeding ground for acne causing bacteria.  Furthermore, overactive oil glands and heavy oily makeup tend to clog the pores.  This in turn results in acne.  Over-exfoliating and the use of cheap skin care products can also lead to acne breakouts.  In sum, you must ensure that you are taking the necessary steps to keep your face clean and healthy. Furthermore, the more equipped you are with good information is the more likely that your acne reduce efforts will succeed
